New site stuff

Posted by Kishkumen in General

Ok, so now that I’ve gathered a reader or three…

I’ve contacted the owners of PostSecret, and unfortunately, they said I can’t use the name for anything for legal reasons. I can understand that, since they are using it to publish books, etc. They didn’t say I couldn’t borrow the idea though! So, I guess I’m still going to work for it, since I’ve got nothing better to do with my bandwidth. The question remains, now I need a new name for it. I was thinking ShareSecrets, but that domain is taken (though blank, and expiring in April). This means I’m currently open to suggestions. I think I’m going to keep looking into the slashcode path, since if I can get it to work I’m betting it’ll work well. Or maybe learn PHP and write my own site… Yeah, right.

I’m sure there are several very good books on PHP out there, and all of the really great guys are self-taught. I’ll bet you could do it no problem. Plus, it would make you, like, marketable and stuff.

    PostSecret isn’t allowed, hrm.

    PonyexpressSuprise? FencepostSecretivity? AfterPrivateinformation?

Seriously, though, I’d go entirely different, but catchy. Maybe WildWhispers? Net, Org, Info and all those other funky ones are available on that. ShareASecret.org is also available, as is ClandestineMail.org/net/etc. If you used SendASecret org/net/etc, a very cool feature could be an online submission form which uses both an RSS style news feed backend along with an internal mail server, so visitors can both send anonymous secrets (“Someone you know has a secret to share! …”) plus have the data shared be available immediately to any news website, and in a “Live Secrets” column on the main page…

Aw, crap, my geekiness is showing again.
It sounds fun, let me know if I can help somehow.

Incidentally, thanks to my superior typing ability, I now know that Sucrets.info is readily available to anyone desperately wanting to share data concerning popular throat lozenges… >_>
